Starting from our facility, with just 12 minutes, you can reach Ancona, the regional capital, located on the central Adriatic coast on a promontory formed by the northern slopes of Monte Conero. This promontory gives rise to the gulf of Ancona, in whose innermost part is the natural harbor. The city has several beaches: among the first, the most central is that of the Passetto, with large white rocks, including the Seggiola del Papa and the Scoglio del Quadrato, very characteristic places. Rocky beaches follow one another towards the South; among them is the Mezzavalle beach. The most famous beach south of Ancona is Portonovo (Blue Flag 2017) characterized by gravelly and stony tracts, with very white and rounded limestone pebbles, considered one of the peculiarities of the town. The presence of the woods directly in contact with the beach, together with the open views towards the majestic mass of Conero, constitute a great attraction of the area. The most representative monument of the city of Ancona is the Cathedral of San Ciriaco, a splendid Romanesque-Gothic basilica, with Byzantine elements, built on the foundations of an Italic temple from the 4th century BC and a later early Christian church.Among the sites of tourist interest we highlight: the Church of Santa Maria della Piazza, a masterpiece of Romanesque art, characteristic for its arched façade and for the symbolic figures carved around the portal; the Arch of Trajan, a Roman Arch erected in the first century A.D; the Church of San Francesco alle Scale, with the beautiful façade in Venetian flowery Gothic style, the Mole Vanvitelliana, a splendid artificial island with a pentagonal plan inside the port, built to a design by the papal architect Luigi Vanvitelli; the Loggia dei Mercanti, the most important secular building, in Venetian flowery Gothic style; the evocative Fontana del Calamo or the Tredici Cannelle, whose antiquity is attested by the name, of clear Greek derivation, which recalls the marshy environment in which it stood. The National Archaeological Museum of the Marche, documents the prehistory and early history of the Marche region, while the Omero Tactile Museum, one of the few in the world, and the only one in Italy, also allows blind people to approach the art by touching plaster casts life-size of famous sculptures, architectural models of famous monuments, but also archaeological finds and original sculptures by contemporary artists.
